NSC Writing Specialist Dan Walsh

Picture
Hello Scorpions, my name is Dan.

I originally escaped servitude on the planet Tatooine and spent the next several years studying the Jedi arts before being given the opportunity of building a moon-sized space station. But my dreams were shattered after an unthankful little twerp fired a couple of torpedoes in a thermal exhaust port no bigger than a womprat. In a strange Maury-Povich-like twist of fate, I later cut off the little twerp’s hand and revealed that he was my spawn. Wait, this is the wrong bio. Let me start over.

As someone who took a few back roads in life, I understand other students who were not able to complete college right out of high school. I served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2000 to 2006 and spent quite a few years experimenting in different careers options. There were several life lessons that I learned on these back roads that no school can give, and I thoroughly appreciate the paths that I have taken. Currently, I balance being a full time employee, full time student, and spending time with my wife and child (all while maintaining a 3.7+ GPA). At the age of 34 I am now wrapping up a double major in Biology and Environmental & Resource Science, and my long term goals are to earn a Ph.D, land a career in scientific research, and possibly build a moon-sized space station that may or may not be capable of blowing up a planet.

For all of you out there who enduring The Struggle you have my upmost kudos. I believe that elbow grease, sound intellect, flexibility, dedication, and a sense humor are some of the keys to maximizing your chances of meeting goals. I look forward to helping you develop your writing skills here in the writing center (unless you’re rebel scum).
