NSC Writing Specialist Jose-Angel Corral
Greetings! I’m José-Angel Corral Rodríguez (you might hear José in the Writing Center) and maybe José-Angel in the library. I am a Visual Media student with an emphasis on Animation. I’m also the Visual Media tutor and a Technology tutor in the Academic Success Center (ASC); I split my time between the Writing Center and the ASC.
I really love drawing and painting, and I doodle whenever I get a chance i.e. my class notes. I speak Spanish (native language), English (non-native), French (semi-conversational), and I’m taking ASL this semester. I’m always down for a session in Spanish, or to empower you to use your own language, if it helps in a session. I want to be an animator in the future, but not forever. What really draws me to animation, and art in general, is the creative/ critical problem solving and creation of meaning in art. I would like to explore those aspects of other art forms.
With that, what I really enjoy focusing on during sessions, is having a conversation. A conversation meaning: a casual discussion about writing in order to really support and empower you, not only as a writer, but as an individual who brings their past experiences and ideas of what your writing should be. By having that discussion, not only is writing less intimidating (which really helped and still helps me with my writing), but we can come up with approaches and processes to writing that work for you, so you can carry those approaches and processes into other projects, writing related or not.
